Contemporary Violin, Viola & Cello Makers.

A new instrument from a working luthier is, for most professional players, the best value in the fine-instrument market: built to the same standards as the old Italian masters, voiced to the player, and a fraction of the price of a comparable antique. The makers in this section are full-time builders — many trained at Cremona, Mittenwald or Newark — who put out a small number of new violins, violas and cellos every year.

Use the country filter below to find a maker close to you, or contact several at once: most working makers will happily talk through commissions, waiting lists, models and pricing.
